SHANGHAI

How many riders has the crew?

We have around 80 regular riders (each time we organise a skate night around the city  around 30 people show up, the trips are around 15 people or so), however the core crew consists of the following long time members:

Sebastien Maillard, Coton Chen, Sabrina FanJie, Victor Videneev, Eric Loriot, Martin Mclaughlin, Xiaotu, Beijixing, Julien Moreau, Pierre Pailhas, Raphael de Bagneux, Manu.

Year of creation of the Crew and  Location

2006. Almost all of us are based in Shanghai, China. However, we have a lot of friends that are still part of the crew but live all over the world now from France to Italy, Thailand, La Reunion, Czech Republic, …

What does your name means?

The English comes from the original blog of the founder, which was named Atomic Skate. When we decided to grow and collaborate with more people and brands, we then rebranded as Atomic Krew (2010 - Also as an homage to the French band Stupeflip).

In Chinese 生 stands for life and 滑 means the process of sliding. So you can comprehend it as a sliding through life or that life that is made of slides.

How long have you been skating together? How did everything start?

It all started in 2006, when a French guy decided to mimic the ‘Rando-Roller’ from Paris on the streets of Shanghai. This stroll around the city quickly became a great success, gathering up to 150 people on a bi-weekly basis. Unfortunately, officials at the time were not happy about events assembling so many people. One night, the pack was stopped by the police and told not to ‘ice-skate on the roads’ anymore, meaning that the skate night could not be organized in town anymore.

In an escape from authorities and to gain freedom, weekends in Moganshan began to be organised, three hours from Shanghai in bamboo forests, along with various other activities such as downhill biking or canyoning. Around 2007-08, AtomicSkate created the first events in China where people would go down mountains with all sorts of wheels, from Longskate to Inlines, Rollerskates or buttboards. Later on AtomicSkate re-named themselves as Atomic Krew and this was the real beginning of Le Krew.

From then on, we explored all the mountains in a range of 4h from Shanghai, and mapped out most of the tracks we could do, tracks where there are less cars and more incline. Finally the Krew has been formed of various Eras depending on those people joining the crew and those leaving the country.

Have you been  with the whole crew to  any big Event? Which one is the best for you?

Some of our guys went to a few international races that took place in Chengdu. Besides that, our biggest events are our exploration trips; such as the one we did to the Tibetan part of Sichuan province in 2015 and 2017, South of Zhejiang in 2016 and Taiwan in 2017.

Any wanted event attendance for the future?

Korea, Phillipines and HongKong.

Do you normally do skate trips (non events related)? Which one is the best for you?

We organise DH trips every weekend. Even when the weather is not good and even if we have no time))

Any really wanted trips for the future?

Keep exploring. Guys did Taiwan (October 2017) ;

Exploration trips on the list are: Beijing, Xinjiang, Yunan, Hainan, Changsha, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, etc…

What’s your favourite spot to skate and chill?

Every DH weekend destination is a favourite one. Roads are empty and smooth

Anything else that you wanna share with our readers?

We love DH but do not limit ourselves with it. We are also found of a bunch of other extreme sports like canyoning, climbing, street and park inline skating, surfing, snowboarding, etc, etc…
