How long have you been skating together? How did everything start?

We have been skating for over last 6 years.

It was in 2011, when Ozzie and Qyas Rahman(Mancool) bought their first street skateboards and tried to pop some flips, just realizing it is harder than it looks like. Soon, they got tired of trying it again and again. Ozzie remembered that, back in the days when he was living in Malaysia for a few years, that the surfing people were cruising around the city with longboards. So the two surfer boys in Lombok decided to buy a cruiser longboard. However, they had to borrow money in order to buy their first Globe Cruiser – it was around one year of saving for them. On Youtube they discovered some videos about downhill longboarding and skateboarding, and it was also Youtube that thought the two of them how to make slide gloves and how to slide. Unaware of the fact that cruisers are not made for sliding in its first place, they practiced every day and it was only in 2013 when they were able to do their first colemans.

The big step:

Persistent and ambitious they kept on practicing, filming it and uploading the footage on Youtube. Luckily, Shandy spotted it, came to Lombok, brought some proper downhill equipment with him and showed Ozzie, Qyas Rahman(Mancool) and their fellows how do slides. But who’s this Shandy? He’s the owner of Longboardina  in Jakarta, the only longboard supplier in Indonesia, and the founder of Gokil. As you can imagine, the international longboard brands are not affordable for most Indonesian people. At that time, almost all of the equipment of the Lombok Longboard Riders was donated by Longboardina or European longboarders that also had seen the videos of the improvising and struggling crew in Lombok. Today, most of the Lombok Longboard Riders ride the local longboard brand Gokil, testing the equipment and make the scene growing fast. There might be around 50 active and inactive skaters in Lombok, also a few girls. However, they do rather longboard dancing than freeriding and downhill longboarding. And slow but sure, the island with its countless skate spots and highly motivated crew gains the attention of the international longboard community. This is also because of the legendary Lombok Skate Trip that took place already in 2016 and 2017.
